Eko Hot Blog reports that North East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) has raised concern over the influx of bandits in some states in the sub-region.
In a communique issued at the end of its 8th meeting in Maiduguri, the forum said the bandits were those flushed out by the military in other parts of the country, who were now moving towards the sub-region, particularly Bauchi, Gombe and Taraba states.

The communique also noted that some traditional rulers and other local authorities were conniving with the bandits, giving them shelter and cover to commit crimes.
The forum said it would decisively deal with any traditional ruler or community leader found to be harbouring or conniving with the bandits.
In addition to the security concerns, the communique also raised concerns about the proliferation of illegal mining in the region and the impact of climate change.
The forum urged governments at all levels to enforce compliance with the provisions of Nigeria’s Mining Policy and the Land Use Act.
