Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, recently appointed Kasim as the pioneer provost of the health college.
In a statement shared with Eko Hot Blog, Onibon hailed the appointment as deserved.
“I felicitate with Prince Dr. Moyo Kasim on his new appointment by the Edo State Governor as the pioneer PROVOST of Edo State College of Health Sciences and Technology. Congratulations,” he wrote.
The new Provost of the Edo State College of Health Sciences & Technology is the immediate past Provost of the Lagos State College of Health and Technology.
He is also the son of the late Olu Epe of Epe, Oba Muritala Dabiri Kasim.
‘Wealth of Experience’
Appointed as the Lagos health college provost in September 2012, Kasim comes into his new role with a wealth of experience in health administration.
He has been an Assistant Professor at the Mount Olive College, North Carolina, in the United States (US) since January 2012, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Before then, the new Edo health college provost was an Adjunct Professor at Clayton State University in Georgia from August 2008 to January 2010 and Griffin Technical College from September 2007 to January 2012.
Kasim also served as a public health consultant at the Georgia Department of Human Resources from July 2006 to June 2007.
He obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in Health and Physical Education in 1990 and a Doctor of Health Administration degree at Central Michigan University in 2005.
Furthermore, the new Edo college provost is an inductee of the Volleyball Hall of Fame in US.
He was inducted at an event in Pennsylvania, US, on April 23, 2016.
Kasim, who started playing volleyball for Nigeria at 18 and played for about 20 years, winning national, continental and international laurels, was the first African to be inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame.
He is married to Rolake Olagbegi, Nigeria’s tennis sensation in the 80s & 90s, from the Royal family in Owo, Ondo State and one of the daughters of the famous Olateru Olagbegi, Olowo of Owo.
Responsibilities as Provost of Edo State College of Health Sciences and Technology
In a January advertorial, the Edo State College of Health Sciences & Technology said it wanted a Provost that provides strategic direction and oversees the overall administration of the College of Health Technology, “ensuring the implementation of effective policies and procedures.”
The provost is also expected to foster an environment of academic excellence and cultivate positive relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies and healthcare organizations.
Kasim’s Impact at Lagos State College of Health Technology
In a November 2021 interview, Kasim said graduates of the Lagos State College of Health Technology are highly sought professionals at home and abroad.
The college’s former provost said, despite facing several challenges upon assuming office, he made the institution trustworthy to foreign institutions.
“When I came in as Provost initially, the College was running on a standard that I was not comfortable with,” he said.
“There were several challenges and one of the most glaring was that people, particularly outside the country, did not trust our transcripts, so when I came in, I decided that the grading system needed to be changed.
“At that time, a score of 40 percent was the pass mark, but I was not satisfied with that.
“I said it was not right and argued that even though it was the accepted system at that time, it had to be changed.
