‘Not Everyone In The Military Fights In War’ – Alara of Ilara Urges Epe Youths to Pursue Careers in Nigerian Armed Forces
HRM Oba Dr. Olukayode Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, has urged Epe youths to consider careers in the Nigerian Armed Forces, stressing that the military offers diverse roles beyond combat.
The monarch stated this on Friday at sensitization programme aimed at encouraging the youth of Epe to pursue careers in the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The event, held at the Epe Local Government Council Chambers Ita-Marun, Epe, was
organized by the Office of Hon. Wale Raji, Member of the House of Representatives (MHR) for Epe Federal Constituency, in partnership with Eko Hot Blog, to highlight various opportunities and benefits a military career offers.
Speaking at the event, HRM Oba Dr. Olukayode Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, praised Hon. Wale Raji for his tireless efforts in reshaping Epe.
He said, “When a child is good, one should not remain silent but tell the child. Our MHR is good; he’s competent,” he stated, emphasizing the positive impact Raji has made through various development projects, including schools, health facilities, markets, roads, solar power, and water facilities and so on.
The Alara thanked the MHR and Ekohotblog for the initiative and also expressed his support for the sensitization program, saying,
“This initiative, backed by Eko Hot Blog and the Lagos State Government, is commendable.
It is really an avenue to educate and inspire our youth.”
He further encouraged young people to explore the diverse career opportunities within the military, stressing that,”The armed forces encompass various sectors, such as medicine, clergy, catering,information and so many others.
“Not everyone in the military fights in wars; with the support of the federal government, those who join can also advance their education and pursue other aspirations.”
Oba Ogunsanwo persuaded community leaders to play an active role in guiding their children, stating,
“We must enlighten our youth about the benefits of choosing a military career instead of engaging in negative activities that harm our community.”
He expressed hope that more Epe youth would take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Nigerian Armed Forces to contribute positively to society.
The event featured prominent guests from the office of the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, and Lt. Col. C.U. Okereke, Commandant of the Nigerian Army Cantonment in Epe.
They all shared insights into the rewards of serving in the military and the importance of increasing participation from Lagosians in the armed forces.
