Eko Hot Blog reports that a notorious member of the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād, better known as the Boko Haram terrorist group, has surrendered himself and arms to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno state.
This development was revealed by Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region, through a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.
Makama quoted intelligence sources as saying that the terrorist, identified as Sajeh Yaga, had sneaked out from the terrorists’ den in Yale, Sambisa forest, and surrendered to troops of the 112 Task Force Battalion in Mafa on April 28, 2024.
“The sources also revealed that the terrorist surrendered with one AK47 rifle, four AK47 Magazines, six 7.62 MM special ammunition, and three Tecno mobile phones and other items,” Makama stated in his post.
According to the sources, the surrendered suspect has been taken into military custody for profiling and further investigation.
This development is seen as a significant blow to the Boko Haram terrorist group, as it highlights the growing disillusionment among its members and the increasing pressure from the Nigerian military’s counter-insurgency operations.
The surrender of Yaga, along with his weapons and equipment, is expected to provide valuable intelligence to the security forces in their ongoing efforts to combat the terrorist threat in the region.
