Nottingham Forest Owner Banned For Spitting At Match Officials

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been handed a five-match stadium ban for spitting on the floor as match officials passed by in the tunnel, according to an independent regulatory commission.

The incident took place following Forest’s 1-0 Premier League loss to Fulham at the City Ground on September 28.

The commission ruled Marinakis guilty of improper conduct, stating there was “no excuse” for such an “egregious display of disrespect” that could “encourage disrespect towards match officials.”

In a separate case, Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo and midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White faced punishment for swearing at match officials after the 2-2 draw against Brighton on September 22.

Nuno received a three-match touchline ban for his red card, while Gibbs-White was given a one-match ban after being sent off.

Although the commission acknowledged their admissions of guilt and remorse, it noted that Nuno’s disciplinary history counted against him.

Meanwhile, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler, also sent off during the incident, was fined £8,000 but avoided a touchline ban.
