Eko Hot Blog reports that Seven-time champions, Enugu Rangers, are narrowly leading the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after suffering a 4-3 loss to Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Sunday.
The match-day 29 clash kicked off with an intense pace, witnessing a flurry of four goals within the first 20 minutes.
Midfielder Azeez Falolu opened the scoring for Katsina with his fourth goal of the season just four minutes into the game. However, Godwin Obaje swiftly equalized for the visiting team six minutes later.
Michael Ibe restored the lead for Katsina United in the 16th minute, only for Enugu Rangers to respond two minutes later through Saviour Godwin, leveling the tie once again.
Ibe bagged his brace on the stroke of halftime to give the hosts a 3-2 lead while Andrew Idoko doubled the advantage five minutes after the restart, before Joel Odoh reduced the deficit to 4-3 for Rangers in the 81st minute.
In Lafia, Lobi Stars clinched a 1-0 victory over Enyimba thanks to Danbani Alao’s 58th-minute goal, maintaining their pursuit of Rangers in second place.
Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes showcased their prolific scoring prowess with a commanding 5-0 triumph over relegation-threatened Gombe United in Kaduna, while Heartland ended their winless streak of four matches by defeating Sporting Lagos 3-1 in Owerri.
At home, Kwara United relied on Isiah Ejeh’s penalty to salvage a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance, who initially took the lead in the first half courtesy of Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi.
Meanwhile, in Akure, Tunde Adeniji’s return to Sunshine Stars was marked with a goal, helping his team secure a 1-1 draw against Bayelsa United. This outcome maintains Kennedy Boboye’s team’s winless streak after three matches, while Bayelsa United continues their ascent away from the relegation zone.
