The 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) runners-up had secured a 2-1 victory in the first leg at home on Aug. 18, but were unable to hold off the Moroccan side in the return fixture at Stade Prince Moulay El Hassan in Rabat, losing 0-2.
Joel Beya, who had scored AS FAR Rabat’s lone goal in Ikenne, opened the scoring in the 53rd minute. The Moroccans doubled their lead with 12 minutes remaining after El Amine Zouhzouh converted a penalty.
This result marks a disappointing exit for Nigerian clubs in continental competitions, as it follows the elimination of El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club of Maiduguri from the African Confederation Cup after a 2-3 aggregate loss in their first preliminary round.
Nigeria is now left with just one representative in each of the two continental competitions. Enyimba International FC of Aba, who received a bye into the second preliminary round of the African Confederation Cup, and Rangers International FC of Enugu, who advanced to the second preliminary round of the African Champions League with a 2-1 aggregate win.
