The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the return of the 2 pm Mass Transit Train Service (MTTS) between Iddo, Lagos, and Ijoko, an Ogun State border community.
Eko Hot Blog reports that NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, made the announcement at the Iddo Train Station, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to meeting the demands of train passengers and improving overall service.
“NRC management being aware of the centrality of the MTT Kajola to Iddo rail line to the continued prosperity of the Iddo, Idumota and some other big markets in Lagos will not only continue to sustain the line, but work to add additional service after careful commercial market viability and sustainability studies,” he said.
District Manager Augustine Arisa and District Superintendent Chidinma Mba emphasized the importance of the MTT line for the success of the Idumota market.
They stated that the market’s prosperity is closely linked to the train service’s operations, and any disruption in service has noticeable consequences.
Opeifa visited the Iddo Train Station to assess operational preparations for the corporation’s revitalization initiatives.
Opeifa highlighted the central role of the Iddo Terminal’s transformation in achieving the NRC’s goals of improving infrastructure, optimizing capacity, and enhancing passengers’ overall experience.
Urgent rehabilitation of coaches is a priority for the NRC management, with considerations being given to solar panel installation for powering air conditioning units.
Additionally, Opeifa stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness and stated that any contractors not adding value to the corporation’s service will face contract termination. He ordered the installation of solar panels for better lighting conditions and a thorough review of land leases surrounding the station.
Reflecting on the station’s historical significance, Opeifa also called on corporate organizations and philanthropists to support the corporation in providing amenities for passengers as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives.
During his visit, he recognized and commended the contributions of women engineers and technicians, who work alongside their male counterparts to maintain the nation’s railway assets in optimal conditions.
