NUC Scraps Mass Communication Degrees From Nigerian Institutions

Mass Communication Degree has been phased out in Nigeria institutions by the National Universities Commission, NUC.

This implies that there would no longer be Mass Communication as a degree programme in Nigerian universities.

According to the NUC, Mass Communication has been unbundled into seven separate degree programmes in order to meet present demand.

The commission noted that the new development takes effect from 2020 admissions into Nigerian universities.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, listed the seven new courses under the new Programmes/Departments, to be domiciled in a Faculty / School / College of Communication and Media Studies as:

  • Journalism & Media Studies
  • Public Relations
  • Advertising
  • Broadcasting
  • Film & Multi-Media Studies
  • Development of Communication Studies
  • Information & Media Studies.
