NURTW Officials Serve Lagos As Commuters Groan In Gridlock
Officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have taken over Lagos roads to control the gridlock in the absence of police officers.
Report has it that the operatives of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) had vacated from the roads, following the civil unrest during the #EndSARS protest.
Recall the civil unrest had resorted into deadly attacks on officers and stations by hoodlums who took over the protest against police brutality.
While this has caused traffic within the state, officials of the transport union were seen on vests marked ‘NURTW Traffic Unit’ directing vehicles in other to ease their movements.
Some of the officials could be seen with planks to beat erring motorists into line.
Meanwhile, as a way to appreciate their efforts, some motorists were seen hailing their labour of assistance to ease the gridlock.
Most of the officials looked tired towards the evening time, after a long day of coming to the state’s rescue.
