NYCN Condemns Attack On #EndSARS Protesters

October 17, 2020.

  • The Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, Mr Lekan Biliamin-Oba, on Friday, condemned the attack on #EndSARS protesters by thugs, Ekohotblog has learnt.

Mr Biliamin-Oba made this known during a press conference held in the Yaba area of the state.

He described the actions of the thugs who, on two separate occasions, attacked protesters at the Secretariat bus stop on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Wednesday and Thursday as shameful, adding that the rights of the protesting youths were violated.

While urging the officers of the Nigeria Police Force to protect the protesters, Mr Biliamin-Oba commended the efforts of Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in setting up a panel to look into cases of police brutality in the state.

Mr Biliamin-Oba said, “The NYCN have followed and joined in the agitations and solidarity of the Nigerian youths in demanding total overhauling of the Nigerian Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, as they have suddenly become life-wasters and legalised robbers, which is far from their constitutional duties of securing the lives and properties of Nigerians.

According to him, Wednesday and Thursday, October 15 and 16, thugs attacked and injured youths protesting peacefully at Alausa. We find this act shameful as it is a blatant violation of the basic human rights of the Nigerian youth.

“We strongly condemn this and implore security operatives to protect the citizens and not stand aloof.” he added.
