NYCN Epe Branch Calls For Dialogue Over Nationwide Protest

Eko Hot Blog reports that the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Epe Branch, has called for national dialogue over the ongoing nationwide protests in the country.

The council made its position known on Wednesday, 31st July 2024, at a press conference held at the Epe Local Government Secretariat in Epe, Lagos State.

Representatives from the Arewa Northern Youth Epe Division and the Igbo Youth Epe Division were also present.

The conference addressed the recent locking of the Epe Area Office of Ikeja Electric and the nationwide protest which started on August 1st, 2024.

Comrade Moibi Ibrahim, Coordinator of NYCN Epe, explained that the office lockage was a symbolic gesture intended to draw attention to ongoing power supply issues affecting the community.

Ibrahim emphasized that the NYCN Epe’s action was non-violent and aimed solely at expressing concerns about electricity problems.

He urged Epe’s youth to avoid the protest and instead seek dialogue with the government to address their grievances peacefully.

Highlighting the lessons learned from the EndSARS protests, Ibrahim cautioned against actions that could lead to violence and property damage.

He underscored Epe’s commitment to maintaining a peaceful and constructive approach to problem-solving.

Ibrahim announced that the Lagos State Government and the CEO of Ikeja Electric have agreed to visit Epe to discuss the electricity issues.

He encouraged the youth to participate in these discussions and work collaboratively with stakeholders to find solutions.

In conclusion, Ibrahim called on Epe’s youth to remain calm and engage positively with the community and government.

He emphasized that unity and constructive dialogue are key to building a better future for Epe, Lagos, and Nigeria as a whole.
