NYCN Epe Launches Essay Writing , Public Speaking Competition for Secondary School Students

Ekohotblog reports that the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Epe Chapter, has announced the commencement of an Essay Writing and Public Speaking Competition for Senior Secondary School students (SS1 to SS3) in both public and private schools in Epe.

 

The competition is aimed at encouraging young minds and help them grow intellectually, started on November 1, 2024, and will run until the final event on December 14, 2024.

 

The theme of the essay competition is “The Roles of Education in Promoting Intercultural Dialogue, Conflict Resolution, and a Rewarding Future for All.”

 

Students under 18 years old are asked to write essays of at least 800 words, which must be submitted in PDF format by November 30, 2024.

 

The competition has three stages: the Essay Writing stage, the Public Speaking stage for the top 10 students, and the Grand Finale, where the top five students will present at the Youth Conference 2024.

 

The top three winners will receive cash prizes of N50,000, N30,000, and N20,000, while all participants will get consolation prizes and certificates.

 

Chairman of NYCN Epe Chapter, said that the competition will help improve students’ thinking skills and promote important values like diversity and understanding. He said,

 

“This is a chance for students to share their ideas and show their talents.”

 

The competition will also help students improve their public speaking skills, One of the event coordinators, added,

 

“We want our students to be well-rounded, and this competition will allow them to express themselves and engage with the community.”

 

Students are already excited about the competition. Rukayat from Odomola Secondary School said,

 

“This is a great opportunity for me to share my thoughts on how education can shape our future and solve conflicts.”

 

The Essays will be reviewed between November 30 and December 2, and shortlisted candidates will be announced on December 2.

 

The public speaking stage will take place on December 12, and the Grand Finale will come up on December 14, 2024, at the youth conference.

 

NYCN Epe Chapter encourages all schools in the area to participate and help their students grow.

Emphasizing that the competition is not just about winning but also about learning and improving academically.
