NYGG Calls for Immediate Release of Miyetti Allah Leader Bello Badejo

NYGG Demands Release of Miyetti Allah Leader Bello Badejo

The Nigerian Youths for Good Governance (NYGG) has urged the Federal Government and the military to release Bello Badejo, the leader of Miyetti Allah, who was recently detained under unclear circumstances.

In a statement on Thursday, Alhaji Ado Mohammed, the Executive Director of NYGG, expressed concern over what he described as the unlawful arrest and detention of Badejo, a respected Fulani community leader known for promoting peace and development.

Badejo was reportedly taken into custody by soldiers on December 9, 2024. Mohammed revealed that this was not the first incident, as He had also been detained in January 2024 for nearly five months without explanation or due process.

“This arrest is a clear violation of his fundamental human rights,” Mohammed stated. “Alhaji Bello Badejo has been wrongly accused of crimes he did not commit.

He has been working tirelessly to improve his community, including plans to build a mosque and a market to support local economic growth. These peaceful efforts should not lead to such harassment.”

NYGG also criticized the treatment Badejo is reportedly receiving in detention, claiming he is being held in poor conditions without access to his family or proper care. They expressed concern for his health, which was said to have worsened during his previous detention.

Mohammed called on the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to investigate the reasons for Badejo’s arrest and hold those responsible accountable. He also demanded Badejo’s immediate release and access to medical attention.

“The Federal Government must respect the rule of law and protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, community role, or religious activities,” the statement added. NYGG affirmed its solidarity with Badejo’s family and community, urging authorities to ensure justice is served.
