The National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Enugu state has announced that Five members of the 2019 Batch “B” Stream 2 who absconded during the scheme, will repeat their service year.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Sam Ujogu made this known in a statement on Thursday in Enugu during the passing out of corps members who served in the state.
Mr Ujogu noted that 1,460 corps members which comprise of 683 males and 777 females had successfully completed their service in the state.

According to the statement, the state coordinator monitored the issuance of discharge certificates to deserving corps members in Enugu North, Enugu East and Enugu South local government areas of the state.
Mr Ujogu, who monitored the event along with the Deputy Director, South East Area Office, Mr Tom George, noted that those that absconded would repeat their service year whenever they resurfaced.
Also, Twelve out of the 1, 077 corps members that passed out on Thursday in Kwara are to repeat the service year for various offences committed during the service year.
NYSC State Coordinator in Kwara, Mrs Francisca Olaleye stated this on Thursday during the passing out ceremony at the state secretariat, Ilorin.
According to Mrs Olaleye, 10 corps members, who absconded from the national service, would repeat the entire service under the NYSC bye-laws.
According to the state coordinator, these punitive measures would serve as a deterrent to other corps members.
Mrs Olaleye commended three of the outgoing members, who were awarded the various categories of NYSC Honours Award.
The state coordinator, also charged the outgoing corps members to be worthy ambassadors of the scheme, and to imbibe the virtues of discipline, hard work, patriotism and obedience exhibited while on national service.
According to her, the corps members were leaving indelible footprints behind in the state, especially in the area of Community Development Service (CDS).
“The various CDS projects, initiated and executed by the outgoing corps members, have gone a very long way to complement the developmental efforts of the state government,” Olalelye noted.
The state coordinator urged the outgoing corps members not to relent in their efforts, in exhibiting all the high moral values that helped them to achieve successes while on national service.
Apart from being worthy ambassadors of the NYSC scheme, the state coordinator urged them to always shun all those social vices that may easily jeopardize their success in life.
