NYSC Releases List Of Varsities Banned From Taking Part In 2021

  • The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has banned eight foreign universities in the Republic of Benin, Niger, and Cameroon from taking part in the 2021 Batch A orientation course.
  • Although the NYSC leadership did not state the reason for this drastic decision, it was gathered that most of the affected universities awarded degrees a few months after matriculation.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has banned eight foreign universities in the Republic of Benin, Niger, and Cameroon from taking part in the 2021 Batch A orientation course.

The NYSC made this known in a circular dated March 5 and addressed to state and federal capital territory coordinators.

Although the NYSC leadership did not state the reason for this drastic decision, it was gathered that most of the affected universities, otherwise called Cotonou universities, awarded degrees a few months after matriculation.

The affected universities include  Al-Nahda International University (Niger Republic); Ecole Superieur Sainte Felicite (Benin Republic); Ecole Superieur D Administration et DEconomics (Benin Republic);  Ecole Superieur DEnseignement Professionelle Le Berger – ESEP Le Berger (Benin Republic).

Others are Ecole Superieur St. Louis DAfrique (Benin Republic); Institute Superieur de Comm.  Dord Et De Management – ISFOP (Benin Republic) and  International University, Bamenda (Cameroon)

The director-general of the NYSC, Shuaib Ibrahim, had accused universities in the Benin Republic of presenting unqualified candidates for the one-year mandatory national service.

The DG noted that since his assumption of office, he realised that some of the corps members were returned by their employers to NYSC on the grounds that they were not qualified to teach or some them could not read and so on.

He added that the scheme had arrested several numbers of fake corps members, recently in the last orientation and handed them over to the police for prosecution.
