Oando PLC has announced the appointment of Mr. Ademola Akinrele, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as the new Chairman of its Board, effective immediately following the company’s Annual General Meeting on December 17, 2024.
This appointment follows the resignation of Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland, who stepped down from his role as Chairman and board member of Oando PLC.

Oba Gbadebo served on the board for over 18 years, including 12 years as Chairman. The company acknowledged his leadership, highlighting his contributions to guiding the company through key transactions and challenges. The board expressed appreciation for his service and noted that his legacy would remain a part of Oando’s history.
With Oba Gbadebo’s resignation, Mr. Akinrele has been appointed to lead Oando into its next phase. The company expressed confidence that, under Akinrele’s leadership, Oando will continue to grow and succeed in the energy sector.
Akinrele had previously served as a non-executive director and as Chairman of the Governance & Nominations Committee. He holds an LL.B. (Hons.) from University College, London, and an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge. He has also served on the boards of Agip Plc, Danos & Curole Marine Contractors, and other institutions.
In addition, Oando appointed Mr. Cosmas Iwueze as an independent non-executive director. Iwueze is a petroleum engineer with over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
