Oba Akiolu Of Lagos To DIG Alabi: ‘Police Can’t Be Successful Without Community Cooperation’
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has called on the police to prioritise robust relationship with the community.
The monarch made charge when he received the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Sylvester Abiodun Alabi at his palace in Lagos State.

Oba Akiolu, a former police officer, noted that no police force in the world can be successful without the public’s cooperation.
“There is nowhere in the world where police is successful without the cooperation of the community. Let the police continue to be involved with the people,” the first-class traditional ruler said.

He also urged the community that the concept of security is not for the Police Force or security agencies alone, the entire community must be involved.
Oba Akiolu also thanked IGP Kayode Egbetokun and the police management team for the visit.
On his part, DIG Alabi said the visit was in line with the directive of the IGP for the six DIGs to tour their regions to assess security situation and come up with strategies to deal with them.
The senior police officer, who acknowledged the critical role of community policing, called on the public to join hands with security agencies to rid society of crime.

“There is no society that is crime free, as you all know. Crime is a galloping phenomenon,” he said.
“Today, it can be brought down to almost zero level. Tomorrow, there is that tendency for it to be up again.
“It is now left for us to go back to the drawing board and re-strategize and emplaced strategic policing plan to deal with it decisively.”
