Eko Hot Blog reports that the ancient Odo-Noforija Kingdom came alive with color, music, and traditional displays as it celebrated its annual Eebi Festival, a cherished cultural event steeped in the region’s rich heritage.
The festival, which has now concluded, witnessed a grand gathering of locals and visitors alike, united in their enthusiasm for preserving and promoting the vibrant traditions that define their community.

One of the highlights of the festival was the appearance of the revered Kilajolu Masquerade, which paid a visit to the Divisional Police Headquarters to perform traditional prayers and rites.
This age-old ritual, deeply rooted in the kingdom’s spiritual beliefs, set the tone for the festivities, invoking blessings and seeking divine protection for the community.
As the day progressed, the anticipation grew for the arrival of the Igòdò Masquerades, whose colorful regalia and mesmerizing dances have become synonymous with the Annual Eebi Festival.
On the auspicious occasion of Good Friday, March 29, 2024, these enigmatic figures graced the event from noon on, captivating attendees with their rhythmic movements and intricate costumes.
The festival’s organizers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all those who attended and supported the event, acknowledging the moral and financial contributions that played a crucial role in ensuring its success. Such support not only enabled the preservation of these cultural traditions but also fostered a sense of unity and pride within the community.

Reflecting on the significance of the Eebi festival, the Aladeshoyin of Odo-Noforija, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja (JP) stated, “The annual Eebi festival is one of the most sacred and important cultural celebrations in Ijebu land. While Yoruba people across different regions have their own unique festivities, the Eebi festival holds a special place in our hearts and traditions.”
He further emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage, advising, “We must not ignore our rich cultural heritage and traditions in the face of the digital age. Instead, we should strive to preserve and celebrate our roots, for they are the foundation upon which our identity and values are built.”
