Oba-Elect Of Araromi-Ekiti Arraigned For Alleged Forgery

• Oba-elect of Araromi-Ekiti, Babalola Adebomi, has been arraigned for alleged forgery.

• Charges include forging a University of Ibadan certificate and an NYSC discharge certificate.

• He pleads not guilty, with the court ordering his detention pending further hearings.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Oba-elect of Araromi-Ekiti in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti state, Babalola Adebomi has been arraigned for alleged forgery.

The Oba-elect was arraigned on Monday, May 20, before the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

According to the charge sheet marked FHC/AK/16/2024, the defendant is being tried on a two-count charge bordering on certificate forgery preferred against him by the police.

The Oba elect was accused of forging a certificate from the University of Ibadan and presenting the same to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti for a job in 2008.

The defendant was also alleged to have forged the discharge certificate of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and presented the same to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital for employment.

Upon his arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Counsel to the defendant, Attah Paul told the court he had filed an application on notice and prayed the court to give the application hearing.

But the prosecuting counsel, Itunun Osobu told the court that he was yet to read the issues raised by the Defendant’s counsel in his reply to the counter-affidavit he filed.

Osobu told the court that he would be presenting two witnesses before the court to prove the charges.

However, the defendant’s counsel urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring the court he would not jump bail.

In his ruling, Justice Owoeye ordered the defendant to be detained in the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police.

He, therefore, adjourned the hearing till Thursday, May 23, 2024.
