HRM Oba Ganiyu Asumo Aderibigbe At 10, A Lessons Of Modesty By T.J Abass
The tenth year anniversary of the ascension to any ancestral stool is a milestone that is usually celebrated with pomp and circumstance.
But what happened with the 10th year anniversary of HRM Oba Ganiyu Asumo Aderibigbe, the Alayandelu of Odo Ayandelu, Jamade 1 was a sharp contrast.
As a matter of fact, it is totally off the mark and the established norm and respect with which that office is viewed.
It was a beautiful Sunday, the 26th day of January 2020 at the ancient town of Odo Ayandelu, and HRM, the Alayandelu of Ayandelu celebrated the 10th year anniversary of his ascension to the throne.
And if you expected the top of the notch, you were more than disappointed. In fact, the celebration can be conveniently described as simplicity and humility in showcase.
And that is, considering the reverence and personal dignity involved, not to refer to the power of the traditional and paramount ruler of this ancient town in Lagos State:
There was no lineup of exotic cars in sight, no blaring sirens, and no stampede by zealous security details. If there was the creme de la creme of the society present, they were as anonymous as the regular faces in the niegbourhood,
It was more or less an assemblage of the sons and daughters of the community and the traditional chiefs who were, expectedly, glad to be part of the celebration.
At the risk of repletion, it was indeed a low key celebration, a symbolic activity carried on in the lowliest of moderations. Be it as it may, the other lesson of such a rare event was never lost to the discerning. Pomp and pageantry missing, but the excitement and display of love was not tampered with in any way.
Rather, very evident was the level of excitement that pervaded the atmosphere.
One of the residents even had an inscription on his Keke Napep, Odo Ayandelu, the capital of the United State of America.
Haba! Capital of the most powerful Nation on the World. Laughable in one sense but loaded in moral consequence in that this gesture underscores the depth of patriotism that ran in the veins of members of the community.
The love and unflinching allegiance on display is a reflection of the leadership style of His Royal Majesty.
The event commenced in the early hours of the day not at the palace but away from the Palace at the exact place where the journey started 10 years ago.
HRM Oba Ganiu Asunmo Aderibigbe said it was also an opportunity to ponder and reflect on the journey so far which has been made possible only by the benevolence and the infinite mercy of the Almighty God.
The support of the entire community and the traditional chiefs have also been an instrumental for the seamless voyage so far.
He expressed his appreciation for their support and their commitment to the development of Odo Ayandelu.
It is also an opportunity to showcase and educate the younger generation on the rich tradition of the ancient town The preservation of that culture so as to prevent its extinction remains his priority, he contended.
His Royal Majesty in an exclusive interview with Ekohotblog bares his thoughts on numerous issues of national importance particularly in the regional approach by Southwest governors codenamed Amotekun, to address the region’s security challenges.
The regional approach undoubtedly is a welcomed development that will eventually become the law of the land. He also believes certain modifications and consultation with the Federal Government must continue so as to address the shortcomings of the initiative.
The support and endorsement of the Yoruba traditional rulers are also crucial to the success of the initiative, he concluded.
The celebration continued with a spectacular performance of Odo Ayandelu traditional cultural group.
The climax was the presentation of a cheque of N250,000 to Mr Bola Iwamtigha, the Chief Security Officer to His Royal Majesty for his dedication and loyalty to his duty and the institution.
During the presentation, Oba Ganiyu Asumo Aderibigbe said that the uncertainties in the world today occasioned by economic realities in the country has given rise to the erosion of values and disloyalty in any relationship.
There are still some few ones regardless of these harsh economic realities who are still dedicated to their duty and it will be a travesty if such individuals are not recognised.
The presentation of the cheque is in recognition of these virtues in Mr Iwamtigha and a token of appreciation for his selflessness and dedication to duty.
It was indeed a beautiful event though low keyed.
Congratulations to HRM and the entire Odo Ayandelu Kingdom.
