Oba Ogunlaja Becomes High Society Club of Nigeria Patron

On Saturday 13th February 2021, HRM Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja JP added another feather to his cap as he secured the official title of patron with one of the oldest and most decorated clubs in the country, High Society Club of Nigeria, during a visit by some of the principal functionaries of the club.

The Monarch, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja JP, is the Aladeshonyin and Paramount Ruler of Odo-Noforija Kingdom.

The event, which took place at Kabiyesi’s Royal edifice came as a pleasant surprise to His Royal Majesty who was stunned when their mission was revealed by the Governor-General, High Chief Babatunde Shina Ogunlade, through the presentation of Letter of Intention, as directed by the Life President, Chief LA Shoyombo JP.

Present at the gathering were Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja JP and his Junior Olori, Oba Nelson Ogunlari, Olowu of Owu-Ikosi, Oba Adewale Abdul, the Olofin Ajaye, Orugbo-Iddo, HRM Oba JA Dehinbo, Okemu of Ala-Ijebu, Chief M Badejo, Odofin of Odo-Noforija Kingdom, Baales and Chiefs in Council. Notable members of the High Society Club of Nigeria include, Chief Babatunde Rahman, former Governor-General and Secretary, Elders Council, Alhaji Hamid Shoyemi, the President, High Chief Babatunde Shina Ogunlade, the Governor-General and a host of others.

As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG, the Former Governor-General of the Club, Chief Babatunde Rahmon, in his address to the gathering disclosed that he was sent by the Life President, who was unavoidably absent but sent his warm regards, to lead members of the distinguished club to the Palace.

In his reactionary remark, Oba Ogunlaja thanked the high society for the honour of conferring upon him the exalted title of a patron. He also took great pride in the fact that the high society is the only society he has identified with all his life.

“The Governor-General, members of High Society Club of Nigeria, it is my great pleasure to have your distinguished presence here in my palace”.

“Although my hands are tied. The past Governor-General didn’t disclose to me the purpose of this visit. He only told me he was coming to visit me with his Excos, so, I was unable to invite more Kabiesi but my good brothers HRM Oba Nelson Ogunlari, the Olowu of Owu-Ikosi, Oba Abdul Adewale, the Olofin Ajaye, Orugbo-Iddo are here with me and I’ll be very happy to see them as part of us because of their impeccable qualities”.

“High society is the first Club I joined in my life. I am so much happy and delighted to be part of such an honourable society, especially for the melodious club song laced with didactic lyrics. I tell people that apart from the Island Club, I think the High Society Club is one of the best clubs in Nigeria “, Oba Ogunlaja stated.

Having accepted the conferment, Oba Ogunlaja, in his characteristic magnanimity donated a token to the club and thereafter disclosed his intention to install the Governor-General as one of his Chiefs (Otunba).
