Oba Ogunlaja Urges Government to Decentralize Audit Exercises to Prevent Loss of Lives
The Aladeshonyin and Paramount Ruler of Odo-Noforija Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja (JP), has urged the Lagos State Government to decentralize its audit exercise processes to protect public servants from unnecessary risks.
Ekohotblog reports that this follows the tragic death of Mr. Adeyeye, a teacher in Epe, who lost his life in a road accident while returning from an audit assignment in Lagos. The accident left 16 other teachers seriously injured, sparking widespread grief among educators and the local community.

Speaking in an interview, Oba Ogunlaja expressed his sorrow over the incident and emphasized the need for reforms.>
“It is heartbreaking to lose someone in this manner. Mothers and fathers of people are in the hospital with serious injuries,” the monarch said.
He called on the government to bring such exercises closer to public servants to reduce travel risks, improve efficiency, and ensure safety.
“The government must rethink the current process of conducting audits. Decentralizing these activities will not only save lives but also improve efficiency.”
Calls for Reform
Oba Ogunlaja stressed the importance of prioritizing the welfare of public servants like teachers, who dedicate their lives to nation-building.>
“It is unfair to subject them to unnecessary risks due to poorly planned logistics. This incident should serve as a wake-up call to review these procedures,” he added.
The monarch commended teachers who voiced their frustrations during a condolence visit by the Commissioner for Basic Education, Hon. Tolani Balogun, and urged the government to listen to their grievances.
“The outcry from the teaching community shows the depth of frustration and neglect they have endured. Immediate action is needed to ensure that such tragedies do not recur,” he said.
A Call to Action
Oba Ogunlaja recommended that the Ministry of Education adopt localized and accessible audit systems to eliminate long and hazardous commutes.
