EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Aladesonyin and Paramount Ruler of Odo-Noforija kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja JP (FmBe), has applauded the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for the recent breakthrough in the completion of the Oke-Oyinbo/Awolowo road.

He spoke with EKO HOT BLOG in an interview at his Royal Palace in Epe on Friday 21st 2022.

According to him, the projects are commendable, going by the swift response of the Governor to calls from the good people of Epe.

Aladeshonyin, who wasn’t surprised at the development, seized the medium to appeal for the construction of a new Secondary School in the Poka-Noforija, stating that the existing school closer to the people has been overpopulated.

He disclosed that he had written to the Ministry of Education and sought the support of the Federal Government through the House of Representatives Member for Epe Federal Constituency, Hon. Wale Raji.

“We are in dire need of a secondary school and if they can centralise it to Noforija, it will be of utmost advantage. The reason is that we have only Pobuna Secondary School on this axis servicing a lot of communities.

“In Noforija alone, over 300 primary school students graduate yearly and the influx and drastic relocation of people have monumentally increased the number of school children thereby overpopulating Pobuna secondary school,” he revealed.

Oba Ogunlaja also expressed concerns over persistent road accidents on the Poka/Atlantic Hall School junction due to the absence of traffic lights and light reflectors.

“When you get to Poka junction, a lot of accident occurs on that spot because there are no road signs and traffic light. I’ve complained with the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Housing to look into it. If any vehicle is approaching from Atlantic Hall Secondary School to link the Epe-Ijebu-Ode expressway, all those haulage trucks cause a lot of accidents.

“Also, there’s a need to place reflectors on the demarcation on the expressway because I noticed that when driving at night, any driver could easily overrun the demarcation having being blinded by the headlight of an oncoming vehicle,” he said.

Oba Ogunlaja was highly optimistic of peaceful coexistence, growth and development in the division if the people would desist from destructive criticism.

He believed that the traditional institution in the Division should begin to serve as a beacon of good governance, stressing that political office holders must not be found wanting in delivering good governance to the people.

“I think now is the time for we Royal fathers to rise because what we are witnessing in politics is nothing to write home about. There is nothing that stops us from looking into the affairs of our political leaders because we also belong to the government. If any political office holder is performing below expectations, we should alert the government and that is one of the areas we can contribute to good governance,” he opined.

The former Secretary of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs also pleaded with the government to remember to hugely compensate one of the historic heritage buildings in Noforija, the First African Church, demolished during the construction of the Epe/Ijebu-Ode Expressway.

He also made case for owners of other houses which paved way for the road construction to be compensated, stressing that the inhabitants go through harrowing experiences during the rainy season.
