Obasa Impeachment: Seven Lawmakers Who Didn’t Vote Against Speaker Removal

  • Hon. Nuremi Akinsanya Didn’t Vote Against Obasa Removal
  • Hon. Adedamola Kasumu made the list of loyalist
  • Hon. Shabi Adebola is a staunch Obasa Supporter

The impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, with 32 out of 39 members voting in favor, not only demonstrates an overwhelming consensus but also signals the extent of dissatisfaction among assembly members towards his leadership.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the near-unanimous decision highlights the urgent need for change that assembly members perceived, ultimately culminating in Obasa’s removal.

EDITOR’S PICK

The vote count reveals that only a few members opposed the motion, indicating Obasa’s waning influence within the legislative body.

Below are profiles of the seven lawmakers in total who did not vote for his impeachment according to Western Post.

1. Hon. Nureni Akinsanya

Hon. Akinsanya, a two-term legislator representing Mushin Constituency I, has had an active role in various House committees throughout his political career.

Initially elected in 2019 to succeed Hon. Funmi Tejuosho, he began his first term as Chairman of the House Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Following his re-election in 2023 for a second term, Akinsanya assumed the role of Chairman for the House Committee on Public Accounts (Local).

In addition to these leadership roles, he has been an active member of several other House committees, including:

Economic Planning & Budget, Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Commerce, Industry and Cooperative, Finance, Health/Primary Health Care, Housing, Local Government Community, Rural and Chieftaincy, and Legislative Compliance.

2. Hon. Lukmon Olumoh

Hon. Lukman Olumoh, a second-term lawmaker, has been serving the Ajeromi/Ifelodun Constituency I since 2019, succeeding Hon. Dayo Famakinwa who held office from 2015 to 2019.

During his first term, Olumoh contributed significantly to the Lagos State House of Assembly as Chairman of the House Committee on Public-Private Partnerships.

He continued his dedicated service by taking on the role of Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget before the recent impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa.

3. Hon. Noheem Babatunde Adams

Hon. Adams represents Eti-Osa Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, a position he assumed following the unfortunate demise of the former lawmaker Kazeem Alimi, who passed away after a brief illness.

Prior to his appointment as the Majority Leader in 2023, Adams served as Chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Compliance.

Interestingly, Adams holds a unique place in the history of the Lagos Assembly as the only Majority Leader whose tenure was short-lived.

4. Hon. Emmanuel Olotu

Olotu is a new member who was elected in 2023. He represents Ifako/Ijaiye Constituency II.

He was the Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture.

5. Hon. Shabi Adebola

Adebola, a newcomer to the Lagos State House of Assembly, was elected in 2023 to represent Lagos Mainland II, succeeding Hon. Moshood Oshun, who currently serves in the House of Representatives.

Prior to the recent impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, Adebola held the position of Chairman of the House Committee on Environment.

Adebola, a staunch loyalist of Obasa since his election to the House, has maintained a strong alliance with the former Speaker throughout his tenure.

6. Hon. Damola Kasumu

Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, also known as ARK, is a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the former Deputy Majority Leader of the 10th Lagos House of Assembly.

Representing Ikeja Constituency II, Kasunmu has been an active member of the Assembly since his first election in 2015.

Throughout his tenure, Kasunmu has held several key positions within the Assembly, including Chairman of the Committees on Land and Youth, Sports, and Social Development.

7. Hon. Ege Olusegun Adebisi

Ege Olusegun Adebisi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), serves as a representative for Ojo I Constituency in the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly.
