EKO HOT BLOG reports that the former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, traditional leaders, and elder statesmen are set to hold a meeting over the current security challenges bewildering the country.
The Nigerian leaders are also expected to meet over secessionist agitations in the country.
The meeting, which was earlier billed to hold on Thursday, May 27, has now been slated for June 10, 2021, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that those expected to attend the Obasanjo meeting include the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; a former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar; and a former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), John Cardinal Onaiyekan.
While other groups expected at the meeting include the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere; Igbo group, Ohanaeze; Pan Niger Delta Forum; and the Middle Belt Forum.
“I am pleased to invite you on behalf of the Interfaith Initiatives for Peace jointly led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar; John Cardinal Onaiyekan, National Peace Committee chaired by General Abdulsalami Abubakar and Socio-Cultural Consultative Committee for Goodness of Nigeria to an exploratory meeting on pressing issues of national unity, security, peace, integration, economic revitalisation and development, women and youth, welfare and general progress,” a letter signed by Obasanjo read in part.

The invitation letter was dated May 6, 2021.
In the letter, Obasanjo asked the participants to contact Ambassador Ahmed Magaji on transportation.
When contacted on Friday night, the former diplomat said he was not competent to speak on the proposed meeting, adding that only the former President, who signed the letter, was capable of speaking on the meeting.
He noted that Obasanjo was at liberty to call a meeting and put his (Magaji) name on the list.
