Obaseki Slams Okpebholo Over Additional Generators at Edo Broadcasting Service

Okpebholo Probe Obaseki’s Administration

The Immediate past Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has accused his successor, Monday Okpebholo, of undermining the operations of the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS).

EKO HOT BLOG reports that  Obaseki, through his Media Adviser, Crusoe Osagie via a statement, accused Okpebholo of mismanagement, claiming his actions have undermined the advancements made in the state’s media assets under Obaseki’s leadership.

Obaseki highlighted that during his time in office, he connected EBS to the 95MW Ossiomo Power Plant and provided two standby generators, including a new 500KVA and a 200KVA generator. These measures, he explained, ensured the station had reliable power, with Ossiomo providing 24-hour electricity and the generators serving as backups during maintenance or power interruptions.

Obaseki raised questions about Okpebholo’s recent decision to deliver two additional generators, including 150KVA and 135KVA units, to the station. He wondered why a facility already powered by Ossiomo and supported by two generators would need further backup power.

The statement reads:

“The ongoing regression in Edo State, driven by the incompetence and lack of capacity of Governor Monday Okpebholo, has begun to affect all sectors, including the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS). This once-thriving station, revived under Obaseki’s leadership, is now facing setbacks due to the current administration’s poor management practices.

“Under Obaseki, EBS was connected to the 95MW Ossiomo Power Plant, and two standby generators were provided for uninterrupted service. However, it appears that Okpebholo has introduced two additional generators to the station. This raises the question: What is the rationale for adding more generators when the station is already powered 24/7 by Ossiomo, with backup generators in place?

“Is Okpebholo planning to run EBS entirely on diesel, and how does he intend to fund this operation? What are the long-term costs of running these new generators, and why hasn’t he addressed the inefficiencies caused by such decisions?

“Under Obaseki’s administration, EBS became financially self-sufficient, generating revenue and remitting funds into the state’s treasury on a regular basis. This is a clear contrast to what we see now under Okpebholo’s leadership.

“Is EBS still self-sustaining, or has it reverted to relying on government subvention? Has Okpebholo been able to maintain the growth Obaseki achieved, or has his poor management brought the station’s progress to a halt?

“Obaseki’s approach transformed EBS into a world-class media facility, no longer dependent on state funding. Okpebholo’s lack of expertise in running such an organization is evident, and his decisions are pushing the state backward.

“Rather than focusing on petty issues, we urge Okpebholo to build his leadership skills and vision. His ongoing failures are only becoming more apparent, and it’s time for him to stop using press conferences to cover up his incompetence.”
