The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has suspended the chairman of Esan West Local Government Area, Patrick Aguinede for alleged embezzlement of public fund.
The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Monday Osaigbovo, confirmed the suspension on Tuesday.
He noted that the chairman was suspended for two month to allow for investigation into the allegations of financial misappropriation levied against him.
It could be recalled that three Local Government chairmen including Aguinede has been suspended in the past three months by Governor Obaseki.
Osaigbovo noted that the suspended chairman had not been remitting accurate revenue into the internally generated revenue account of the state.
He said “the statistics he gave as the number of tricycles and motorcycles operating in Esan West is 3000.
“If he collected N150 each from them, that amounts to N9m monthly but Aguinede was remitting only N4.5m.
“The Governor always warned us that anybody caught would not only be sacked but be prosecuted.”
The suspended chairman in his reaction noted that he has accepted the decision of the governor in good faith.
