  • Says they isn’t any collaboraton between them and PDP, NNPP
  • He urged all Nigerians to unite against APC

In a recent press conference in Abuja, Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, dismissed rumors of a merger with opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Obi was clear in his statement, emphasizing that while talks may have been speculated, there was “no agreement yet” for any merger.

The former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians, irrespective of their political affiliations, to unite in the fight against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he accused of mismanaging the nation’s resources.

According to Obi, the APC’s mismanagement was evident in the high cost of governance and a growing national debt, exacerbated by government officials’ excessive foreign travels.

Obi also spoke candidly about the nation’s security crisis, expressing deep concern over the ongoing violence and kidnappings that have claimed the lives of countless Nigerians. He described the situation as “unfortunate” and called for immediate action to tackle banditry, terrorism, and corruption.

Reflecting on the 2023 presidential election, Obi recalled his unprecedented performance, securing over six million votes despite being a first-time contender. However, the Labour Party’s bid fell short of the ruling APC’s victory, with Bola Tinubu securing nearly two million more votes than his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

Despite the loss, Obi’s call for unity and a new approach to governance resonates as a potential rallying cry for those seeking an alternative to the status quo.
