Obiano Was Allegedly Arrested By EFCC For Misappropriation Of N42bn

Willie Obiano, Former governor of Anambra State, is said to have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged misappropriation of public funds.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Willie Obiano, the former governor of Anambra State, is said to have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged misappropriation of public funds.
According to Channels Television, Obiano was arrested for stealing N5 billion Sure-P and N37 billion Security Vote funds, which were withdrawn in cash.

According to the source, a portion of the funds were also diverted to finance political activities in the state.
The former governor, who was reportedly on his way out of the country to Houston, Texas in the United States before being apprehended at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, has been transferred from Lagos to an EFCC facility in Abuja.
He had been on the Commission’s watchlist for months prior to his arrest.
Recall that it was earlier reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released the immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano.
This online media platform recalls that Obiano was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Thursday, the same day he handed over the reins to his successor, Prof. Charles Soludo, as governor of Anambra.
Obiano, who was governor of Anambra for eight years, was picked up by the EFCC operatives as he prepared to board a flight to Houston, in the US state of Texas.
In a letter to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) dated November 15, 2021, EFCC requested the NIS to place the governor on a watchlist and inform it anytime he is travelling out of the country from any of the international airports and other points of entry and exit.
It was later reported by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission denied reports that it has released Willie Obiano, the immediate past governor of Anambra State.
Wilson Uwujaren, a spokesman for the EFCC, has said that the former governor was transferred to Abuja.
