#OccupyLekkiTollGate: Protesters Cede As Police Initiates Total Crack-Down

The planned #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest has not gone as scripted as Nigerian security apparatus have initiated an interagency crackdown to quell the proposed peaceful demonstration.

Recall that following the ruling of the panel of enquiry constituted to investigate the events of October 20, 2020, where peaceful protesters were allegedly shot dead by men of the Nigerian Army, certain quarters of the Nigerian society kicked against the ruling which gave the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) the go ahead to resume control of the Toll Booth.

The protesters had started another hashtag- #OccupyLekkiTollGate as a vehement opposition to the idea of reopening the Toll Gate for business when justice is yet to be served to the families who lost their loved ones during the October 2020 protest.

In line with it’s vow to ensure that Lagos State is not mired in another round of protests, the Lagos State Government on Saturday deployed legions of security agents to quell and suppress any semblance of demonstration at the Toll Gate.

As at the time of filing this report, all the protesters have totally withdrawn from the planned demonstration following the arrest of a number of protesters who had come out in the early hours of the day to raise their voices and be heard.
