A Nigerian human rights activist and former Chairman of the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, is leading the legal team of Tanzania’s main opposition party, Alliance for Change and Transparency – Wazalendo, to challenge the October presidential election in the country.
Odinkalu is working together with a Senegalese lawyer and human rights defender, Ibrahima Kane, for the opposition candidate in the presidential election, Mr Seif Hamad, and his political party, ACT – Wazalendo.

In the suit filed on November 20, the applicants argued that both the National Electoral Commission and the Zanzibar Electoral Commission, which organised and supervised the conduct of the elections in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar, were compromised.
The court sits in Arusha, Tanzania, and among the court’s judges is a Nigerian, Mrs Stella Anukam.
