Ekohotblog reports that residents of Odo Asusi in Iragunshi, Epe, have expressed outrage following the unexpected demolition of their homes by a team supported by Lagos State security personnel.
The residents have condemned the demolition, calling it unjust and inhumane, and are urging the Lagos State Government to intervene and support those who have been left homeless.
According to the residents, the demolition happened without any warning.
The demolition team arrived unexpectedly, giving families no time to prepare or save their belongings.
The Chairman of Odo Asusi, Iragunshi, spoke on behalf of the community, expressing deep frustration over the suddenness of the action.
“They came without any notice or warning. Suddenly, they showed up with full force and started tearing down our homes,” said Mrs. Abike , one of the affected homeowners.
“We weren’t even given time to remove our things. Now, families have nowhere to go.”
Mr. Ibrahim, whose house was also demolished, shared his shock and sadness: “It was frightening. They came in like an army, and in minutes, everything was gone. We need justice because this isn’t right. How can they treat us like this in our own community?”
The community leaders emphasized that the demolition, which left many families homeless, was done without following proper procedures.
“This demolition is unfair, and we strongly condemn it. People’s rights were violated, and the suffering caused to our community is heartbreaking,” said the Chairman of Odo Asusi, Iragunshi.
“We are asking the Lagos State Government to act quickly, stop this injustice, and make sure the rights of Iragunshi residents are respected,” the Chairman added.
