The directive emphasized that any violation of the order would attract severe disciplinary action, stressing the need for professionalism in the appearance and conduct of police personnel. The statement read:
“INGENPOL has observed with concern the prevalent practice of personnel wearing dark glasses while in uniform. This attitude reflects poorly on the Force and is deemed unacceptable. Consequently, INGENPOL directs that henceforth all police personnel should refrain from wearing dark glasses while in uniform. Violation of this directive will attract severe disciplinary action. You are to make this the subject of lecture.”
“Ensure strict compliance x treat as very important please.”

The ban is part of broader efforts by the police leadership to enhance discipline and improve the public perception of the Nigeria Police Force. Officers are expected to comply with this directive as failure to adhere will be met with strict penalties.
