The Ogun House of Assembly has vowed to work alongside the National Assembly to assure uniform law against rapists in the country.
The Speaker of the Ogun House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, made this disclosure at the Assembly complex, Abeokuta on Friday, during a meeting with the state chapter of the National Council of Women Societies of Nigeria(NCWS) led by Mrs. Aishat Adeyiga.
Oluomo alleged that due to the increasing rate of rape in today’s society, there is a need to review the law binding the crime to suit the current situation.

He attributed this unlawful act to drug abuse by youths as well as indecent dressing among the young girls.
He commended the association for its commitment towards amending the laws binding rape.
Speaking on the case, Adeyiga said the association decided to join their counterparts in the 36 states of the Federation and FCT, to assure that a stringent punishment is served to the rapist.
She noted that the death penalty is a better punishment for perpetrators of the act as the dastardly act leaves the victims a prolonged-lasting trauma.
She explained that “rape victims mostly included babies while the older women are often used for ritual purposes.”
