Ogun Monarch Dethrones 10 Chiefs Over Sale Of Community Land
The Olu of Orile Ilawo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Oba Alexander MacGregor, has dismissed 10 chiefs for allegedly selling 1,600 acres of community land in Alagbagba and other parts of Odeda Local Government Area without his consent.
At a press briefing held in his palace on Saturday, Oba MacGregor, accompanied by other palace chiefs, declared that the sacked chiefs, including Chief Oluwole Dosunmu (Oluwo of Ilawo), Chief Abraham Soyoye (Balogun of Ilawo), and Fatai Sodimu (Jagunna of Ilawo), had continuously defied his authority by conducting unauthorized land sales.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the monarch asserted that the actions of the deposed chiefs undermined the integrity and values of Ilawo, a community known for its adherence to the Omoluabi ethos.
He also called on the chiefs to cease parading themselves with their former titles, emphasizing that their positions are no longer recognized by his palace. Furthermore, Oba MacGregor contended that Ilawo should no longer fall under the authority of the Osile of Oke Ona, as the community has its own king.
In response, the dismissed chiefs denied any wrongdoing. Speaking on behalf of the group, Chief Oluwole Dosunmu claimed that they acted with the community’s endorsement and held recognized certificates from the Osile of Oke Ona, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso.
Chief Dosunmu, 80, added that they learned of the allegations through media reports and had not received any direct communication from Oba MacGregor regarding the accusations.
“We have not done any wrong and have the approval of the community,” he asserted. “We were surprised to hear such allegations on the radio, as no formal notice has been sent to us.”
