The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has sealed off the premises of two Chinese companies, Yibao Industrial Limited and Ronchang Industrial Park, for alleged environmental violations.

The companies, located at Bara Village along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway and Ewu-Osile near the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, were accused of operating in unsanitary conditions and improper waste disposal, in violation of the Ogun State Waste Management Law of 2020.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Abayomi Hunye, Special Adviser to the Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, led the enforcement team and stated that the companies had repeatedly ignored warnings to rectify their non-compliance.

Violations included littering their premises with waste and using unauthorized waste collectors, which contravene Section 17 of the state’s Waste Management Law.

Hunye emphasized that these actions were taken to enforce environmental standards and protect public health. He warned that similar measures would be enforced against any other company found violating environmental regulations, regardless of ownership.

“The essence of shutting them down is to ensure they comply with proper waste management standards in the state,” Hunye stated. “Despite several notices and inspections, these companies refused to clean their environment or engage government-approved waste collectors.

Their actions expose residents to health risks, including odour and potential underground water contamination.”

Hunye further warned that the state government would not hesitate to sanction any company, whether Nigerian or foreign-owned, found guilty of similar violations.
