Ogun Lawmakers Calls For Quick Dispensation Of Justice

The Ogun State House of Assembly have called for quick dispensation of Justice from the Public Prosecution Department of the Ministry of Justice, as part of effort to examine the proposal and draft estimated of the Ministry.

The lawmakers made the call while responding to the presentation made by the State Commissioner for justice, Mr Akingbolahan Adeniran during the defense of the ministry’s proposed 2021 budget presided over by the chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon Olakunle Sobunkola, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.

Honourable Module Mujota, Adegoke Adeyanju, Olusola Adams among others said justice must not be delayed pointing out that  ‘justice delayed is justice denied’.

Mr. Akingbolahan noted that the total expenditure for the proposed fiscal year was N1.19b, personnel cost of N470.4m, with a capital cost of N219.6m, while the overhead cost amounted to N500m.

The Commissioner declared that the overhead cost had increased due to the fact that lots of activities that would foaster the dispensation of justice had been institutionalized, such as administration of criminal justice committee, the introduction of justice clock, Police Duty Solicitor which allows police to keep database of suspects, among others.

Meanwhile, the Director, Ogun State Multi-door court house  Mrs. Adeola Adelaja opined that the State judiciary complex was handed over uncompleted by the previous administration, thereby, trying to work on the face lift of the complex and get more buses that would ease movement Staff to courts, as well as the provision of more courts at Yewa axis, such as Alagbole and Mowe.

On her part, the Registrar of the Customary Court of Appeal, Mrs Titilayo Bello, noted that the State Customary Court was created in January this year as they drawn their strength in the year 2020 from the state high court.

She noted that Customary Court of Appeals in its fiscal year planning to build its headquarter and engage in more activities that would aid prompt dispensation of Justice in the State.
