Ogun Police Deploy 7,777 Officers for Festive Security; NSCDC Strengthens Collaboration with NUPENG
The Ogun State Police Command has announced the deployment of 7,777 personnel to maintain peace and security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola explained that the festive period often leads to increased social interactions, heightened activities, and potential criminal behaviour. She stressed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance toward any disruptions during the holidays.
To safeguard lives and property, officers have been stationed in key areas across Ogun State. “Our proactive approach includes deploying operatives trained in professionalism and civility to prevent crime and ensure safety,” Odutola said. She highlighted that the police presence aims to address public fears of insecurity during the holidays.
Security measures have been heightened in vulnerable areas such as Long Bridge, Rounder, Sapaade, and Ogunmakin, with armoured patrols assigned to monitor these zones. Checkpoints and patrols have been bolstered, and both uniformed and plainclothes officers will work to deter criminal activities and reassure citizens.
Special units like SWAT, Anti-Cultism, and Anti-Kidnapping teams are conducting patrols around schools, worship centres, parks, banks, and other critical locations. Collaboration with other security agencies ensures a unified strategy to keep the state safe.
The public has been urged to cooperate with officers and adhere to security protocols to maintain a peaceful environment. Commissioner of Police Dr Lanre Ogunlowo will oversee the operations alongside Area Commanders, ensuring swift responses to any threats. Residents can report concerns through the police control room, while road users are advised to drive safely and exercise patience at roadblocks.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Adedotun Keshinro, has deployed 3,125 personnel to protect critical infrastructure and support a peaceful Yuletide in Lagos.
During a visit to the PTD NUPENG Lagos Zone Chairman, Comrade Alhaji Adigun Saheed Omogbolahan, Keshinro called for collaboration to ensure compliance with regulations in the oil industry and prevent economic sabotage.
Comrade Omogbolahan welcomed the partnership, seeking the Corps’ support for smooth business operations. Keshinro assured NUPENG of the NSCDC’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted tanker movements and a secure environment for all citizens during the festive season.
