Ogun RAAMP Reiterates Commitment To 500km Rural Roads Construction

Ogun State government under the aegis of its Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), has reiterated her readiness to construct 500km rural roads while the first phase of the project lasts.

The RAAMP, which is expected to run between five to seven years would also construct both primary and secondary markets to enhance farmers profitability.

Project Coordinator of the project in the State, Engr. Samuel Onabanjo, who made this disclosures at the stakeholders sensitization meeting to educate them on Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital on Thursday, said no fewer the ten river crossings would also be constructed.

“The rural roads construction being targeted have been meticulously prioritized in line with the terms of reference set by the policy makers at various levels of involvement.

“Moribund markets will spring up again and disused primary schools will also come alive when the roads leading to and fro this facilities are constructed.

“But a caveat must be entered that two metropolitan council areas of Abeokuta South and Ijebu-Ode are not captured in the exercise for being non-agrarian,” Onabanjo stated.

Contributing at the meeting, the Olu of Awowo, in Ewekoro local government area of the State, Oba AbdulGafaar Tijani, advised that the construction of the road to the farm estate from he highway would defeat it’s purpose if the road is not extended to Isaga.

“My domains leads to Isaga in Yewaland. To that extent, if the road off the mainroad terminates at the Kurere farm estate without being done to link Isaga, the purpose of the exercise could have been defeated.

“I will therefore make a passionate and altruistic appeal that the road be done to alow for increased commuting and socio-economic activities,” the Monarch said
