EKO HOT BLOG reports that Olakunle Oluomo, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has been reelected to represent Ifo Constituency for the fourth time.
Oluomo was the Deputy Speaker of the Ogun Assembly from 2011 to 2019.
In 2019, he returned and emerged as the Speaker of the House, a position he still occupies as he won another term of four years today.
On Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oluomo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the Ifo 1 Constituency election.
The Returning Officer, Professor Richard Shobayo, said, the Speaker polled 7, 546 votes to defeat his closest rival, Yusuf Ogundele of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 6, 596 votes.
According to the INEC official, 18, 378 voters were accredited out of the 95, 448 total registered voters.
Recall that the election in Oluomo’s constituency was declared inconclusive by INEC on March 18 due to over-voting.
During the supplementary election held today in Polling Unit 4, Ward 1, Ifo, the PDP won by scoring 185 votes against APC’s 167 votes.
However, the summation of votes gave Oluomo the lead with a 977 votes margin.
Oluomo is currently facing charges for allegedly diverting N2.5 billion belonging to the Ogun State House of Assembly.
The case filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is yet to commence due to the posting of the Federal High Court judge outside the state for post-election tribunal duties.
