Eko Hot Blog reports that Ogun State Government has said it is essential to establish and strengthen its health information platform to positively impact the various health care systems and further provide efficient service delivery.

This indication was brought to the fore in Abeokuta at a-day training for Record Officers in the State Hospitals Management Board, with the notion that health financing for achieving Universal Health Coverage, Biosecurity and Biosafety would also lead to employment opportunities while opening doors for international collaboration.

Speaking, the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr. Wellington Ogunsanya said the present administration had decided to elevate the hospital’s management to Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for effectiveness, noting that its implementation would cut across the three levels of health care.

Ogunsanya, in a statement signed the HMB’s Press Officer, Mrs. Adebukola Adekanmbi, added that before now, the online part of work in the hospitals in the area of data reporting and transmission to the national database had been upgraded, saying the new process would involve the deployment of mobile platforms in all clinical areas of the hospital activities.

“It is important for us to establish and strengthen our health information platform, as this will positively impact on our various health care system, health financing to achieve our Universal Health Coverage, Biosecurity and Biosafety, which will also lead to employment opportunities and opening doors for international collaboration”, he said.

Also speaking, one of the facilitators, Mr. Temitope Adeyoju, who took participants through “Introduction of Mobile Data Collection”, said it is essential to leverage on data and information technology to improve health care delivery, noting that the government had indicated its readiness to embrace advance information technology in its hospital services.

Adeyanju stated that the training would enable Record Officers to explore opportunities in technology to drive the health sector of the State, in order to better the lots of the residents and enhance the future of health care service delivery.

One of the participants, Mrs. Florence Enitan said capacity building had widened their scope in the use of advanced technology for data gathering and presentation, as well as management information system software.
