The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has strongly opposed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) decision to conduct a fresh Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for candidates affected by what the Board described as technical errors in the recently released 2025 UTME results.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization is demanding that all affected candidates from the South-East be automatically awarded 300 scores, citing emotional distress, financial hardship, and insecurity as reasons the candidates should not be subjected to another round of testing.
This comes after JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, admitted on Wednesday, May 14, that mistakes by the Board led to unusually low scores among candidates from the five South-East states and Lagos State. In response, JAMB announced plans to reschedule examinations for the impacted students.
But in a press statement issued on Thursday, May 15, National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, described the Board’s remedy as unacceptable and insensitive.
“It is unjust for JAMB to subject our children to another round of mental torture, stress, and risk, especially over errors that were entirely the fault of the examination body,” Okwu said.
He condemned the proposal for a fresh examination, insisting that many of the affected candidates have been psychologically traumatised since the release of the erroneous results.
“Are the same parents who are already burdened by financial hardship expected to bear the cost of another exam? What about the security risks involved in travelling to exam centres across the country?” he asked.
According to Okwu, the Igbo people are intellectually capable of scoring over 300, and JAMB’s action is being perceived as a calculated attempt to deny South-East youths access to quality education.
“We demand that JAMB award a 300 score to every affected candidate from the South-East as compensation for its own error. If this demand is ignored, we will not hesitate to take legal action. No amount of apology or explanation from the Registrar will change our stand,” he warned.

Okwu also accused JAMB of a deliberate attempt to marginalize the South-East, alleging that the region is being systematically denied educational opportunities through institutional sabotage.
