Eko Hot Blog reports that the HITECH Construction Company Limited, on Tuesday, issued a memo to all its staff in Lagos State, directing that all its sites in the state should be closed over fears that “there may be civil disturbance by the Okada riders” following the Lagos State government’s ban on commercial motorcycles in six local government areas of the state.

The ban on commercial motorcycles in the affected local government areas will take effect from Wednesday, June 1.

The memo, signed by the company’s Head, Human Resources and Administration, Awele Ofuasia, directed project managers and the chief security officer to “ensure the safety and security of company’s equipment and materials” across the state.

The memo, titled, ‘Safety Precaution’, partly read: “Tomorrow, 1st of June, 2022, will be the effective date for the Lagos State ban on the operations of Okada riders in Lagos State (within six Local Government Areas of the state).

“There is a security alert that there may be civil disturbance tomorrow by the Okada riders.

“In light of the above, the Management has decided that all sites in Lagos State should be closed tomorrow for the safety of all staff and Company’s properties.

“Project Managers in collaboration with the Chief Security Officer (CSO) should ensure the safety and security of Company’s equipment and materials in their respective sites.”

The company added that normal work in the state will resume on Thursday, June 2.
