Okada/Keke Ban: Disabled Persons Protest In Lagos
Members of the Physically Challenged Empowerment Initiative, on Friday, carried out a peaceful protest against the ban on motorcycles and tricycles in select LGA’s in Lagos state.
A large number of physically challenged persons gathered at the entrance of the Lagos state House of Assembly, demanding that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reverse the ban for the sake of the disabled.
A tricycle rider who identified himself as Ahmad said that the state government was being inconsiderate towards the disabled.

“Disability is not a disease. It is a choice. Instead of begging, I ride a tricycle to make ends meet. Why are they treating us like we are not humans? The governor should have considered us before putting such law in place. I haven’t been able to deliver my target amount for some days now,” he lamented.
Another tricycle rider, Tunji Amao, said that the routes that the ban is being enforced are those ones that riders make the most money.
“The government is not being fair at all. I have only one hand and I am still trying to survive without having to beg before eating. Those routes that we were banned from are major routes where we make money because of the crowd. Let the government please consider lifting the ban for the sake of those that are not complete,” he pleaded.
Two members of the group went into the Assembly complex for talks with some officials as of the time of filing of this report.
