EKO HOT BLOG reports that Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared Okpebholo’s seat vacant and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh elections to fill the vacancy.

Reflecting on his journey in the Red Chambers, Okpebholo described his Senate experience as unforgettable, emphasizing the camaraderie and support he enjoyed from his colleagues.

In his heartfelt address, he expressed gratitude to his fellow senators and acknowledged their contributions to his political growth.

“Distinguished colleagues, this is quite emotional for me,” Okpebholo began. “From the moment I joined this 10th Senate in June 2023, every moment here has been especially memorable. We saw ourselves as forerunners of democracy, striving for the best for our nation. Barely one year later, I left to pursue the dream of becoming Governor. Today, I am Governor of Edo State.”

Okpebholo extended particular appreciation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his unwavering support during his gubernatorial campaign, describing his assistance as “truly uncommon.”

He also thanked Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele for their guidance and brotherly support.

“The warm relationship among us in the chambers cannot be overemphasized,” Okpebholo added. “Even as Governor, the memories of the 10th Senate will linger with me.

“I promise to remain your ambassador as I drive governance from the executive branch.”

He further noted that his legislative experience has shaped his passion for good governance, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, security, education, and health.

Okpebholo concluded by acknowledging the support of his close friends and colleagues, including Senators Kaka Shehu Lawan, Babangida Husseini Uba, and Abdulaziz Yari.
