  • The IMF urged the FG to consider the condition of the citizens and extend the date.

  • According to the APC chieftain, FG must extend the deadline so we can face the election.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has reacted to the call by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the extension of the February 10 deadline for the naira swap.

The IMF in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, pleaded with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Government to consider the woes of Nigerians.

The statement reads: “In light of hardships caused by disruptions to trade and payments due to the shortage of new banknotes available to the public, despite measures introduced by the CBN to mitigate the challenges in the banknote swap process, the IMF encourages the CBN to consider extending the deadline should problems persist in the next few days leading up to the February 10, 2023 deadline.”

The plea from IMF came shortly after the Supreme Court restrained the federal government and CBN from enforcing the deadline, which is just days away.

Reacting in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, Garba acknowledged the call by the IMF for the apex bank to extend the cash swap deadline.

The APC chieftain asserted that the concern for the well-being of Nigerians has gone international with the call from the International monetary body.
