Olori Adewale bemoans state of Epe road, Appeals for government intervention
A world without women will no doubt be empty as a grave yard for obvious reasons. The role of women in any society can not be underscored. This is due to the fact that they are the primary force to reckon with in the family, the smallest unit of any nation.
As it is believed that the burden of any successful family rests on their slim shoulders, such success or otherwise transits into the community, society and nation at large.
The reasons are not far fetched as it could be deduced from the age long belief of our fore fathers that a bad child belongs to the mother while the good one is meant for the father. This kind of belief mirrors the failings of mothers in a given family and as such motivates them to double and redouble their efforts towards making the world a better place by administering effective leadership from the home.
Although the world is changing and women, feminists in particular, are vehemently opposing such erroneous belief, citing that both parents must be held responsible for the fate of the bad child. This however does not in any way alter the scriptural role of women as Muslims or Christians and by extension, traditional believers.
Speaking with Ekohotblog on the plight of women in the present day world, especially in local communities where eking a living is like going through the needle’s eye, was the Olori of Epe Kingdom, Alhaja Adewale.
Olori who was still basking in the euphoria of her husband’s double celebration spoke at the event marking the 10th coronation anniversary and 82nd birthday ceremony held at the Olu-Epe’s Royal Palace.
Olori Adewale spoke briefly about her husband, Oba Shefiu Adewale, Bamgbopa Eshinlokun I, the Olu-Epe of Epe kingdom and how the journey to traditional leadership has been in the last decade. She said,
” I feel very happy and elated. His age is such that everybody aspire to reach in life. The experience on the throne has been very nice. He, being a retired civil servant and a retired commissioner and I, a retired Chief Matron at National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, retired few months after each other.
After we came back from Badagry where he was appointed as Sole Administrator, we ended that era after the commencement of democracy and that was 1999.
So, things have been very good, he did not even know he is going to be an Oba but he has been very active in the community, always in Epe every weekend and he has been supporting the last three Obas before him. Maybe because of his aspirations for the Epe people, that is why the mantle fell on him to become the Oba.
“Nothing comes easy but thank God we are able to cope. He has been a quiet Oba. He is very contented, he is the kind of Oba who does not sell land”.
As regard her desire from government, She pleaded that Epe roads be reconstructed. Also, she lamented the sufferings of her fellow women folks in the community. She therefore implored government to come up with life saving programmes to ease their plight.

” I want government to urgently address two issues here in Epe. To begin with, our roads that were left unfinished by Ambode, we want it done because these roads are affecting everybody. There has been a lot of complain as commuters groan while travelling. I appeal to the government to assist us to fix the roads.
Secondly, I will want the government to assist our ladies (women) in Epe. Some of our men are in service but most of the women are petty traders. So, I will implore the government to assist them to become somebody. Even if it is a token, they should give them so that they can be self sufficient “, she said.
