In a conversation between the Aremo of Epe Kingdom, Otunba TJ Abass and former staff of Olu-Epe, Kaka Babatunde, the duo spoke on the values the late Monarch stands for.

Babatunde said, “I’m taking this moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve the late Olu-Epe and our beloved community… The memories are those of mixed feelings, and they will forever linger in my heart.
“It’s important to state this because on numerous occasions, I was opportune to work closely with the throne and it provided me with that ample opportunity to help retrace my ancestral affinities and cultural identity even though it came with a lot of resilience and sacrifices.”
In his response, Aremo Abass said, “We sincerely appreciate the media coverage and all the tireless efforts of the Epe media team.
“You became an integral part of a collective mission: to tell our story. A story rooted in good name, character, integrity, and the Omoluabi ethos so deeply embodied by the late Kabiyesi.
“Though he is no longer with us, his legacy and the values he upheld continue to echo through our hearts and our community.
“He was never among the most flamboyant of monarchs. His personal car collection could be counted in a second—just two vehicles. He owned only two modest houses. Not a single plot of land bore his name, even though he once held the powerful office of Executive Secretary of Lands in Lagos State—a position that could have given him access to vast wealth.”
He, thereafter, recounted how the late Olu-Epe allocated a piece of land to Oba of Lagos, “I still remember how the current Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas, Oba Rilwan Aremu Akiolu, once confided in me that it was Kabiyesi who allocated him his very first parcel of land in Lekki. Yet, Kabiyesi himself never owned land in Lekki, Lagos State.

“How many monarchs of his stature would reject a car gift, and instead urge the giver to use the funds to construct roads for the benefit of the community?
“What a life of simplicity. What a life of contentment.
“Integrity was not just his principle—it was his very identity. His deepest concern was never self-enrichment, but lasting impact.
“May the younger generation find inspiration in his example. May they learn that honour is greater than affluence and that legacy is built not by what we acquire but by what we give.
“May his soul rest in peace!”
Meanwhile, dignitaries across the State have continued to pour out tributes to celebrate the legacy of the late Monarch.
