In one of his interviews before his demise, he explained that the story of his life started when his mother died in 1957. “I was in form two. But my father took it upon his shoulders to finance our education, at least to the secondary school level. My father was a disciplinarian, too, and wouldn’t take nonsense from any of his kids.
“My life was moulded by both my father and my elder brother. He was an apprentice under UAC as an engineer and with the little money he was getting as salary, he was sending pocket money,” the late Olu-Epe had said.
The late Monarch attended NA (Native Authority) School in Epe to finish his Standard Six, where he was a classmate of the father of the present deputy governor of Lagos State, Femi Hamzat. The school is now LA (Local Authority) School. He proceeded to Ahmaddiya Grammar School, Ibadan and later the University of Ife, where he studied English/History.
His career began as a teacher at Ansar-ru-deen Grammar School, Surulere before joining the government as an Inspector of Education and later became an administrative officer. After being transferred from one place to another, he was appointed as the administrator of Badagry local government for one year during the military era.
While in Epe, he was Otun-Balogun, and later Balogun, before he was eventually crowned Oba of the land. His ascension to the throne made him the 19th ruler of the land.
His 17-year reign until his death not only ensured the peaceful co-habitation of the Ijebu and Eko Epe people but also brought development to the Epe Kingdom.
